Nishiel Patel is a Landscape, and Urban Designer in New York City and a native Texan. The studio is a landscape driven design practice based in New York City which specializes in complex residential and institutional work. The projects range in scale from private gardens to multi acre estates in New York and Texas. Her work uses systems based thinking to explore unconventional design expressions and landscape resilience with an emphasis on the use of inventive material applications and site specific seasonal plant combinations.
Nishiel has practiced as a landscape designer since 2016, following half a decade practicing architecture. Prior to starting her own studio, she most recently worked with Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates. While at MVVA, Nishiel led and participated in numerous landscape projects across North America including the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Centennial Park in Detroit, Hopkins Student Center and Masterplan at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Zink Bridge and Whitewater Flume at the Gathering Place in Tulsa, and the Entry Garden at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art, among many others. Nishiel has also worked at West 8, Thomas Phifer and Partners, HOK, and Allied Works Architecture.
Nishiel received a Masters of Architecture in Urban Design from the Harvard Graduate School of Design and a Bachelor of Architecture from University of Texas at Austin.
